The
House Of Olav And Emma Duun: The author Olav Duun lived in this house from
1914 to his death in 1939, and most of his works were written here. The
house lies undisturbed in 20 Olav Duun Street, Ramberg in the municipality
of Holmestrand, and boasts a splendid view of the Oslo Fjord and the islands
off the shore of Holmestrand. The ground floor is kept as it was when the
Duuns lived here. There is a library containing manuscripts, letters, and
other things left behind by Duun. The first floor is at the disposal of
recipients of the Duun Scholarship. In the garden, a memorial park has
been constructed.
The House of Olav and Emma Duun is owned
and run by "Olav og Emma Duuns Stiftelse", a charitable institution to
which the house was left in 1973 in concordance with the will of Emma Duun.
The charitable institution is responsible for the preservation of the house
as a memorial to the author Olav Duun. It conducts extensive information
activities, among them "Duun-dagane" (Duun Days) featuring lectures and
workshops on the life and works of Olav Duun.
